Thank God.  As people have said it truly is the end of an error.  By the way, Phil, I am sure there will be plenty of other non political things for you to share your wisdom and satire about. Don't disappear on us.

Just like Phil did with Anderson, Rush Limbaugh made it big by telling it like it was when the Democrats were in the White House.  When the Republicans got in, there was concern that Rush was no longer needed and would go by the wayside.  As history has shown us, Rush was able to not only survive, but to also grow bigger and attract a wider audience.  Phil and Rush have a lot in common.   They both dress funny, have a face made for radio, and have been known to partake of certain substances, sometimes in excess.  So what does this mean?  It means that Phil will be just fine.  He will continue to entertain and teach us with his ability to capture the moment in print.

My only comment to Phil is don't force it, just let it happen as it comes to you.  I have certainly enjoyed your contributions and I am sure many others have, also.

Hold on here.  Regan is probably correct.  If you want the roads fixed correctly, we will need to fund it.

How do you fund it?  Tax increase is usually the way you would do it.

I hope the first thing Mayor Bulan (sounds nice doesn't it) does is to Ebay that duratrasher, or set it out at the side of the road for BFI!

Wait a minute.... Store the duratrasher for future use.  I am sure Edgewater will need a nice new coat over it in the future!

Randy is right.

Government is funded by taxes and user fees. That is how government works. Now, as we have learned over the past four years, and really the past 16 years, is that Vermilion is very averse to any taxes. I am not sure of why this is--an inablity to see beyond the household to the greater good--a healthy distrust of government--examples of wasted public dollars. Not sure, exactly.

I think the lesson learned is that you cannot promise to not raise taxes, then raise user fees--such as water--and expect people not to get upset. Also, the lesson learned is that relying on one-time windfalls, like the death of rich citizens, is no way to balance a budget.

Taxes, while always painful, are really a good deal for the services provided. Police protection. Snow-plowed roads. Clean water.

With the right message, a clear plan, and trust in an accountable government, people will support taxes so long as they see a return on the investment. In this economic climate, it is really hard to ask people to support any additional increases unless you can show how that little increase might say, boost their own property value, protect their cars from road damage and keep their water clean and sustainable.

Who can blame anyone for being concerned about their household income? However, some people also look past other expenses and like to scapegoat the government as well.

There are a few ways to fund, all of which require taxpayer funding in one way shape or form:
1. Issue Bonds--paid off by debt service by council (tax money)
2. Direct Levy--you know this one
3. User fees--we could always make a toll road, meter parking. After all, some roads are used more than others.
4. Grants--if from the state, then state tax dollars.
...among others

I am not so sure that a tax increase is likely. Winning people over on the forgiveness tax issue might reallocate already collected funds. Other concepts, like reducing city hall hours to 40 hours, 4 days a week could yield a cost savings of 52 days worth of electricity in municipal buildings, for example.

But to scream about taxes for taxes sake is just not productive--this is the kind on useless banter that is hopefully coming to an end.

We got what we wished for? All right! Does this mean we also get an administration with experience that can use a little professionalism in conducting themselves, a full time mayor and service director who actually answer phones and can be found during business hours, a resolution to the expensive and nonsensical battle with the police arbitration WIN, negotiations that don't cost more than the savings generated from the resulting contracts, no more gravel everywhere from the dura shitter, a better working relationship between the mayor and the city employees, the end of a dollar a year consultant who doesn't know his ass from his elbow but somehow calls all the shots, more productive council meetings, answers from the mayor other than "I'll get back to you on that", less blaming everything on past administrations, ridiculous bending of the rules, bills that actually get paid, and a mayor with understanding of how to actually run the city?   Sounds good.

Regan,

You poor little pathetic moron.  Your queen has already raised your taxes via your utility bill water rates.  Your queen has already stated that a road levy is needed in order to properly fix the roads.   She even promised Council that she would support a road levy if her administation and council could agree upon a plan.   They did...and then your queen stabbed them all in the back and essentially assured that the road levy would not pass so that she could say to her little moron supporters, "See!  I'm saving you money!"

Regan, the only thing more pathetic than your queen is you, because you are so stupid that you believe all her lies.

Regan, you've made me mad.  I don't like to call people names, but you have made me do it.  You are so stupid and pathetic, though, that I don't think you even realize it.

Regan, if Mayor Bulan decides to pursue a road levy, or funding road repairs by increasing the income tax and making it payable by all, then I WILL support it and vote for it.  You see, Regan, the difference between Mayor Bulan and "Mayor" Anderson is that Mayor Bulan will give you a voice.  "Mayor" Anderson did all she could to separate herself from her employers, the taxpayers, and take away their voices.

Mama told me never to mistreat poor, defenseless, brainless animals.  But she never told me what to do about Regans.  I used to contract Orkin to come out to my house every month and spray the perimeter in order to rid my property of Regans and other pests.   I hope no one thinks I was being a mean person by doing so.

But the coffee's brewin' and I just bought a pint of whis...er, medicinal coffee additive, so I'm expecting it to be a great new day.
